Own and operate Vermont Woods Studios, an online furniture store specializing in high-quality, eco-friendly, handmade wood furniture from Vermont.
Never really thought I would be doing this! My education includes a BS degree in Chemistry and a couple masters degrees: an MPH in environmental safety and health management and another in training and communications. My background is in environmental health and safety education and training for large corporations and government. When I moved to Vermont, there were no large corporations or government entities-- at least none that wanted to hire me.
So I decided to start my own business. I had become enamored with Vermont's sustainable furniture making cottage industry and decided to marry that with my own passion for sustainable forestry. I wanted to use my experience in environmental education to reach out to people and raise awareness about the connection between forest preservation and the purchase of wood furniture and flooring for the home.
Did you know that up to 90% of the imported furniture in the US is made from illegally harvested wood, clear-cut from the worlds rapidly disappearing rainforests?
Our mission at Vermont Woods Studios is to educate consumers about where their furniture comes from and persuade people to purchase furniture, flooring and other wood products that are made in America from sustainably harvested wood.
